Beauty Squad Box SA – Review

I’ve always liked reading reviews on subscription boxes, but have never really gotten around to subscribing to any. Upon browsing Facebook the other day, I came across a link to the Beauty Squad SA website. I was super excited for the following reasons:

  1. You don’t have to subscribe for 3,6 or 12 months, you can only buy one month’s box if you’d like.
  2. For only R400, you can get up to R1000’s worth of quality branded beauty products in both sample- and full size.
  3. They are a local business, so I won’t wait 3 months to receive my parcel!

So, without further ado, here is my review of the April Beauty Squad Box from Beauty Squad SA! Please note that even though I have a coupon code available for earning points when you order, this is my honest review of this subscription box. All thoughts and views are my own.

Their Website – Beauty Squad SA

Visiting their website via Facebook was a good experience all in all. It’s user-friendly and super easy to order your box of choice. With regards to payment options, you need to place your order first and then you either deposit the money into their bank account – or you can do an EFT. It would be cool if you could pay directly on the site, or better even if they accepted PayPal as a payment method.

I made use of EFT, and then I realised there is no email address on the website to forward my proof of payment to. I can’t actually remember how I found an email address, but I eventually found one and sent my proof of payment. If I’m not mistaken, I found it on social media.

They responded promptly, confirming my order and processed payment. I was advised that my box would be sent on the 25th  and I received it on the 27th which I was impressed with!

My Squad Box on Arrival

The box was delivered with no extra packaging, but I could see that great care has been taken while transporting the box, as it was still in immaculate condition. I loved the quality, look and feel of the box itself.

I took great care with taking photos as I wanted to capture a true reflection of what it was like to receive my Beauty Squad Box! Of course, the items shifted around in the box a little, but that is to be expected. Everything was still in perfect condition, and I loved the ribbon decorations at the bottom of the box!

My Beauty Squad Box Contents

Butterkup Beauty Facemask – Camelia

To be honest, when I first held this little Korean packet, I was a tad bit sceptical as most of the writing was in Korean, and there was no clear branding on the package, except for a ButterKup sticker on the back.

After finding some English instructions on the back of the packet, I threw caution to the wind and tried it out.

I’ve never used a Sheet Mask before, so at first when I opened the packet I wasn’t quite sure how this was going to work. I unfolded the mask and placed it on my face as per the instructions.

It felt so nice and refreshing, that I waited a whole 25 minutes before removing it, instead of 20minutes as instructed! It had a really nice scent as well, I wanted it to stay on my face forever!

After 25 minutes, I removed the mask and massaged the rest of the product into my face. I let it dry for about 10 more minutes and then rinsed it off. I’m not sure if I was supposed to rinse it off, but my face felt kind of sticky after a while.

After rinsing, my skin felt rejuvenated and refreshed. I’m really impressed by this nifty little Korean mask, and would definitely use it again!

If you want to try it out, be sure to check out Butterkup Korean & Japanese Skincare to get yours! They have Sheet Mask Kits available at only R300 each. The kit consists of 8 sheet masks and should last you a month. I’d say that’s a good deal!

Eye Renewal Cream – Dermactin

Again, I couldn’t find the brand anywhere on this tube. There wasn’t even a clue to type into Google, so I resorted to looking on the Beauty Squad SA Facebook Page to see if I could find any information on this Eye Renewal Cream.

I eventually found a post from another subscriber, who mentioned that this Eye Renewal Cream was indeed from Dermactin.

It feels like a good quality product, and it’s got a great scent as well. I love the way it smooths onto my skin, without leaving it feeling oily or sticky. I will definitely continue using this one in the future!

My Abby Abyssinian Hair Oil Sample

It took me a while to figure out which product of the range I have received. After carefully going through the pamphlet and their website, I saw that I had received the “light weight” formula. This was perfect, as I’m caucasion and I have quite fine hair.

When I applied the product to my hair, I could definitely smell the lemongrass. I quite liked the feel of my hair afterwards, and found that it was more lively after styling.

Seeing that I only had to use a small drop, I still have enough left to last me for a few more applications. I can’t wait to see if it actually strengthens my hair!

Catrice Longlasting Brow Definer

This is the product I was most excited about, but ended up to be the most dissappointing. I guess in this situation, you get what you pay for. At a retail value of R69,00, this is definitely not a quality product.

I’m a brow fanatic and love testing out new products on my brows. This product is very light, and I could barely see it. I have pale skin, so it should be quite easy to see brow-product in the “brunette-shade” I had received. I prefer to stick to NYX Sculpt & Highlight Brow Contour available at Clicks, Dischem etc.

Although disappointing, I’m glad I got to try out this product before buying it in the shop. Maybe it works for others, but it definitely did not work on my skin.

Swiss Bliss Oil Based Perfume – Scent of Luna by Nina Ricci

I must say, I’m very skeptical when I receive perfume which I haven’t chosen myself, for the mere fact that I’m very picky when it comes to perfumes.

My favourite perfume is Black Opium by Yves St. Laurent, but this was a really nice surprise. I’ve sold oil based perfumes before, and I can honestly say that it’s such a nice alternative to the real thing, at a much better price. Because it’s oil based, it stays on your skin nice and long, leaving you smelling fresher for longer. Also, I love having lots of different cheaper perfumes for everyday use, rather than only one expensive one.

It’s also important to remember that this is not the original perfume, but rather an oil-based alternative, mimicking the scent of these famous brands.

I’ve never used Luna by Nina Ricci before, but it’s got a fresh, clean, floral scent which I absolutely love! This was definitely my favourite part of the Squad Box!

Should you be interested in ordering, there is a huge selection of scents available. You can contact Ronel Simon directly on her mobile at 071 361 7670.

Kiki Volcanic Gold Body Exfoliator

I absolutely love this product! I first asked my girlfriend to sample it, and her feedback was quite positive as well. She described it as a rough, clay-like exfoliator with a neutral scent. Afterwards, her skin felt smooth and almost as if she had used moisturizer as well.

The next morining, I also tried it out. I experienced it exactly as she had described, and I think this may well be the best exfoliator I’ve used so far!

To get yours, simply hop over to Kiki Beauty’s website!

My Honest Opinion of Beauty Squad Box by Beauty Squad SA

All in all, I was quite impressed and happy with this subscription box. Good quality products, and it was nice to receive some mystery products. Do I think it’s worth R400? Absolutely!

Something I would suggest is for them to include a little leaflet with a short description and brand of each product, so that we know exactly what it is we’re getting – without turning to the internet.

I loved the way it was packed and I received good service and prompt delivery from Beauty Squad SA! If you’re planning on subscribing or buying a once-off box, copy LM001 as a coupon code at checkout!
